Caid Haseen Beni Lal

Caid Haseen Beni Lal, brigand and outlaw known to the french as "The Sheik Rouge" after his love of wearing red robes, all his men wear red rexas (turbans) too. Pictured here with his personal standard.

These are 28mm from a batch of never released Rif War figures I was lucky enough to get from the sculpter. Both have been slightly converted, the Caid has a new head and right hand (and sword), the standard bearer has had is hands altered and the position of this right arm changed.

  1. Very nice figures. Which product did you use to make the base?

  2. A ready-mix all-purpose filler, painted earth brown then white glue and a dusting of beach sand.

  3. He looks great Richard - always invigorating to see Rif War come up on the blog from time to time. The red Rexas should look great on a tabletop. I know your 20mm figures get to the table fairly often - do you get to games with all of these nice 28mm gentlemen?

    Nicely done

My skirmish set-up is growing - maybe 30-50 Spanish and about the same Riffi/Tuareg/Arabs and about 20 FFL; We had a couple of games (scenarios from my Guide), plus an interesting 1930s FFL Vs Tuareg game which I wrote based on a book. 1:1 skirmish plays very differently to section/platoon/company based games, they were an interesting challenge for the guys.

John (Bannockburn Boy) over on the SOTCW forum knew the guy who sculpted these and when he heard he was looking to sell acted as middleman for the sale. I`ve ended up with maybe 450 miniatures - a mix of Riffi and Spanish Legionnaires including artillery crews, machine guns and mounted troopers too!!! There was even a French `75 and Schneider Ca1 in the box!
